Roshan Mainam On Clash With Liu Peng Shuai: ‘I Fear No One’

ONE Championship - October 8, 2020

“The Indian Notorious” Roshan Mainam will make his much-anticipated sophomore appearance in ONE Championship this Friday, 9 October.

That evening, Mainam will take on ONE Hefei Flyweight Tournament Champion Liu Peng Shuai at ONE: REIGN OF DYNASTIES to kick off the action in Singapore, and he’s not taking his opponent lightly.

“I know that only worthy fighters and warriors get an opportunity in ONE Championship, so in no way, shape, or form will I underestimate my opponent or anyone else,” Mainam said.

“I will come prepared for battle and with my coach and team by my side, I am super confident. I fear no one. I am always ready for battle. I am ready to showcase my new and improved skills, and I am ready to show why Evolve MMA is the best team in the world.”

The 24-year-old plans to outwork the slick-striking Chinese athlete with the variety of skills he’s been honing since his debut Circle appearance, which saw him submit Khon Sichan in the first round.

“I have a wrestling background, which has already improved a lot, along with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu,“ Mainam said. “And I have improved my striking leaps and bounds. I am more focused on myself, and I’ll display my new and improved skills,”

Where will all those skills lead the man from India? According to Mainam, it’ll be another quick finish.

“I don’t want to sound cocky or disrespectful to my opponent or his skill set, but I feel that I can end this fight at any time,” he said. “My team and coach have prepared me well for battle. I feel I should be able to finish this fight no later than the second round.”

A victory would undoubtedly bring “The Indian Notorious” one step closer to his dream of touching ONE gold – something he believes wouldn’t be possible without the support of his nation.

“With the blessing of everyone and my well-wishers, I work towards realizing a dream to have a World Champion from India on the world’s biggest stage,“ Mainam said.

“I am ready for battle, and India is in my heart when I fight and in my smile when my hand is raised!”

Also, Channel 5 will have the action on a same-day delay at 10 p.m. SGT.
