The talent pool of ONE Championship’s heavyweight division has just gotten a whole lot deeper.
Just last week, ONE announced the signing of Marcus “Buchecha” Almeida. Five days later, Amir Aliakbari also put pen to paper and joined the world’s largest martial arts organization.
Both men are managed by Ali Abdelaziz, CEO of Dominance MMA Management – the USA’s premier mixed martial arts agency.
Abdelaziz recently partnered with ONE and promised to bring top-level athletes to the Asian martial arts scene, and with ONE’s recent signing of two of his clients, the Dominance MMA Management CEO has aptly done just that.
Almeida enters the Singapore-based martial arts promotion as a 13-time Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu World Champion.
He won six of those titles in the openweight category, beating former ONE Light Heavyweight World Champion Roger Gracie’s record of three.
Aliakbari, on the other hand, already has a 10-1 professional mixed martial arts record and is a former Greco-Roman Wrestling World Champion.
What makes the Iranian dangerous is his devastating power. He’s finished seven of his 10 rivals by technical knockout.
These two signings could foreshadow what’s to come with Dominance MMA Management and ONE’s partnership, but one thing is already certain – Abdelaziz only wants to showcase his best.
“I have a garage full of Ferraris and Lamborghinis,” he said, “and I’m looking forward to putting on a very, very good car show in Asia.”
After its return to martial arts action last Friday, 31 July, ONE will resume its flagship event schedule with ONE: NO SURRENDER II on 14 August and ONE: NO SURRENDER III on 21 August in Bangkok, Thailand.
