The Baoshan Arena in Shanghai, China played host to a thrilling card of martial arts action this past Saturday, 15 June.
ONE: Legendary Quest had it all — thrilling knockouts, memorable submissions, and pulsating back-and-forth action.
Now, just a few days removed from the event, we review the three best highlights from the blockbuster spectacle.
Stamp Fairtex Shows Her Championship Pedigree
In her first ONE Atomweight Muay Thai World Title defense, Stamp Fairtex faced an uphill task against her challenger – WBC and IPCC Muay Thai World Champion Alma Juniku.
Her Australian rival constantly threatened with jabs and various other strikes, as she landed several clean punches throughout the contest.
Even though she was pushed against the ropes in the later rounds, Stamp stood toe-to-toe with her opponent, smartly controlling the clinch to score knee strikes on Juniku.
It took every ounce of energy from Stamp to summon her championship mettle to ward off the tireless Aussie, whose stamina and intensity was just one of the many bright spots in their thrilling five-round contest.
A unanimous decision victory in her first successful World Title defense improved the Thai hero’s professional record to 63-15-5.
Rodlek Serves Up An Instant Classic With The “Hitman”
In an epic match that went the distance, Rodlek PK.Saenchaimuaythaigym delivered on his promise to entertain the fans in his debut.
Eight-time Muay Thai World Champion Liam “Hitman” Harrison proved to be an excellent co-star as the duo combined to give fans at the Baoshan Arena one of the most entertaining Muay Thai showdowns so far this year.
The action was fast-paced, as Harrison wasted little time in asserting his presence with jabs and blistering leg kicks, which found their mark.
The Thai answered with powerful and accurate punches of his own, dropping Harrison in the second frame. Rodlek dialed up the intensity, pelting the Englishman’s body and head with a series of boxing combinations.
Standing firm, “Hitman” struck late with a superman elbow in the third stanza just before the bout came to a close.
Even with Harrison having his moments, it was the Muay Thai sensation’s consistent output that helped him edge out a unanimous decision victory.
Agilan Thani Returns To Defeat A Legend
Three years removed from the sport of mixed martial arts, the debuting Yoshihiro “Sexy Yama” Akiyama was facing an opponent in Agilan “Alligator” Thani, who was equally hungry to cap off his comeback from injury with a crucial win.
From the get-go, the Japanese-Korean legend recalled his judo expertise to counter the advancing Malaysian welterweight and plant him on his back.
Twenty years the junior in this match-up, Thani showed little fear of taking the battle to his opponent. The Monarchy MMA representative responded by executing several takedowns and gaining control over “Sexy Yama” on the ground.
Looking to settle the match early, the Malaysian sunk a knee into Akiyama’s chest at the opening of the second round. He followed up the stand-up exchanges with his straight right, which connected several times. At one point, the strike corralled “Sexy Yama” towards the fringe of the ring.
Akiyama did capitalize on several opportunities to damage “Alligator” late in the third stanza, where both competitors were slinging strikes and jabs at each other.
In the end, it was Thani’s striking that would power the 23-year-old to a unanimous decision victory, lifting his professional record to 10-3.
