Former ONE Flyweight World Champion Kairat “The Kazakh” Akhmetov of Kazakhstan turned in a dominant showing against China’s “The Southern Eagle” Ma Hao Bin.

The former ONE Flyweight World Champion took home a unanimous decision after three rounds of action at ONE: CONQUEST OF HEROES, which took place on Saturday, 22 September at the Jakarta Convention Center in Indonesia.

It was a shockingly one-sided affair, as Akhmetov controlled the action from start to finish and made his case for another shot at the belt.

Akhmetov’s world-class wrestling was on point all night as he put together a dominant grappling performance over the course of 15 minutes. Ma, a Chinese national wrestling champion himself, was outclassed in the grappling department throughout the contest.

Akhmetov’s world-class wrestling was on point all night. In the first round, Ma immediately got a taste of his Greco-Roman grappling skills, as “The Kazakh” exploded for a powerful overhead slam, planting Ma’s back firmly on the canvas and landing in half guard.

Shortly after, Akhmetov was able to take full mount and had Ma in trouble.

Although the Chinese wrestler survived and was able to force his way back to his feet, Akhmetov sent him crashing to the mat again with another high-amplitude takedown.

The second round saw much of the same kind of action, with Akhmetov actively pursuing the takedown and Ma doing his best to defend against the Kazakh’s advances.

The former ONE Flyweight World Champion proved too strong for Ma, who spent the majority of the frame with his back on the mat.

A pause in action was used by referee Yuji Shimada to penalise Ma towards the end of the round after he repeatedly grabbed cage fence.

As soon as action resumed, Akhmetov was back at it, dumping Ma to the canvas again and going back to work.

Heading into the third and final round, Ma was far behind on the scorecards and needed a finish to win, but Akhmetov gave no quarter, overwhelming “The Southern Eagle” with his relentless pursuit of takedowns.

To cap off a near-flawless performance, Akhmetov landed a striking combination and followed up with another thunderous overhead slam.

In the end, it was a completely one-sided performance from Akhmetov, who placed himself back into World Title contention.

The win also boosts Akhmetov’s overall record to 25-2, while Ma drops to 11-4.
