Former Chute Boxe coach and MMA legend Rafael Cordeiro has chosen his side for Brave 9: The Kingdom of Champions co-main event. Set for November 17th, the groundbreaking event features the first title defense of Featherweight champion Elias Boudegzdame. However, Cordeiro expects his challenger, Brazilian Lucas “Mineiro” Martins, to come out victorious when the two meet at the Khalifa Sports City Arena.

The two-time Coach of the Year recorded a video in which he shows his support for Mineiro, who will make his second Brave appearance after submitting Fabian Galván at Brave 3: Battle in Brazil’s main event. Cordeiro, who has been to Bahrain a few times for seminars, comes from the same MMA lineage as Mineiro.

“What’s up, Lucas!? Rafael Cordeiro here. I’m here to wish you good luck on your title fight for Brave, an event which will take place in Bahrain, a place I’m very familiar with. May God bless you! Clinch your fists and go for the knockout. That’s what we believe. You’re a great striker, comes from a school that needs no introduction. Clinch your fists and do it, one more knockout for us. May God bless you!”, said Cordeiro.

Both of them were trained at the legendary Chute Boxe gym. Martins has been training with Diego Lima in São Paulo, while Rafael spent the majority of his career training under Rudimar Fedrigo at Curitiba and then opening up his own gym in the United States. Kings MMA is widely recognized as one of the best MMA gyms in the world and Cordeiro trains the likes of Fabricio Werdum, Lyoto Machida, Kelvin Gastelum and Beneil Dariush.

Brave 9: The Kingdom of Champions marks the promotion’s return to Bahrain after a year. During 2017, the organization has put on groundbreaking events in countries such as Brazil (twice), Mexico, the United Arab Emirates, India, and Kazakhstan. Brave 9 will be the culmination of the International Combat Week, alongside the IMMAF World Championships, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
