While we at FightGeek are definitely excited to see who would walk away from Impact Arena, Bangkok, as ONE Women’s Atomweight World Champion, we can’t forget mentioning about the other big match between Dejdamrong Sor Amnuaysirichoke and Joshua Pacio, which is also happening on the same fight card.

Dejdamrong (6-1), with over 300 Muay Thai matches fought, will be competing against Pacio’s (8-1) natural talent in Wushu in a bid to secure the Number 1 Strawweight Contender spot. After a bitter defeat by reigning Champion Yoshitaka “Nobita” Naito in May and October 2016 respectively, the two will battle it out in a nail-biting bout on 11 March 2017.

Dejdamrong Sor Amnuaysirichoke

The 38-year-old veteran took the MMA world by storm as the first three-time Lumpinee Stadium Muay Thai World Champion to take on MMA competitively. Training since the age of 10, Muay Thai was Dejdamrong’s first love until he retired in 2007, deciding instead to translate his passion for competing to instructing. 7 years down the road in 2014, the call of the cage was too strong, and Dejdamrong began his professional MMA career with ONE Championship. After 6 consecutive wins and securing the title of ONE’s Strawweight Champion, it was a big blow to him when Yoshitaka “Nobita” Naito forced him into submission and cost him his title. Not only was that his first fight in his homeland of Bangkok, but on that very day, his grandmother sadly passed away.

Now 10 months down the road, Dejdamrong has been training hard on his Muay Thai, Jiu-Jitsu and MMA techniques, confident that he will be victorious this time round. Backed by the support of his fellow Thai-countrymen, as well as the desire to bring honour to his late grandmother, you can expect to see a fiery determination from Dejdamrong!

Joshua Pacio

Only 21-years-old, it is incredible to imagine that Joshua Pacio has already secured 8 wins in his budding career! Originally training in Wushu, Pacio joined Team Lakay and began his professional MMA career a short 3 years ago.

In October 2016, Pacio earned his first title shot and during the 3rd round, we saw Yoshitaka “Nobita” Naito took the back of Pacio while executing a defensive spin and placed him in a rear-naked choke, handing the young warrior from Philippines the very first defeat of his career. Pacio chose to take this as a learning opportunity about his game plans rather than a loss. Realising that he was so focused on sprawling and defending against Naito that he didn’t fully utilise his grappling skills, Pacio has been steadily working on securing a win against Dejdamrong since then.

Inspired by his role model, Eduard Folayang’s, positive attitudes towards the many ups and downs of his life and career, as well as his steadfast spirit in the face of adversity, Pacio will be looking to test himself against another of ONE Championship’s strawweight elites and providing fans with an intensive match for sure!
